Environmental, Health, and Safety

At Redman, the safety, health, and welfare of our employees and clients, as well as the communities where we work and live, is our top priority. We’ve worked hard to develop rigorous environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) standards and take great pride in our exceptional performance year after year, including injury rates well below the industry average.

Safety

Safety_350x263.jpgTo maintain outstanding safety performance, we continuously reinforce good work practices that help reduce risk and prevent unsafe behavior. Further, we’ve gone to great lengths to empower our employees to utilize their stop work authority and take action for safety.

At Redman, productivity is not about shortcuts – it's about creating the right conditions to complete projects on or ahead of time while allowing employees to return home safely to their families. This includes thorough pre-planning, pre-assembly, pre-fabrication, and setup, as well as equipping our workers with the necessary tools, equipment, training, and supervision to help ensure success.

To demonstrate our commitment to providing a safe work environment, we have established a series of systematic methods to help prevent unsafe acts, monitor hazards, and take appropriate response actions. Our program includes:

  • New hire safety orientation
  • Weekly OSHA safety training
  • CPR, AED, and first-aid training
  • Emergency response preparedness training
  • Comprehensive job site audits
  • Behavior-based safety observations
  • Incentive programs

We believe all incidents are preventable, so if one does occur, we take it seriously and conduct a thorough investigation to determine the root cause and identify corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Environmental

Environmental_350x263.jpgWe continually explore innovative ways to improve our environmental footprint and leave a healthier planet for future generations.

Our most esteemed sustainability feature is our rainwater diversion system. We capture rainwater, process it through our in-house treatment system, and reuse it for production purposes. This helps prevent contaminated water from entering the stormwater outfall and being discharged into the Dominguez Channel. It also helps minimize the risk of flooding, eliminate the discharge of clean water into the wastewater sewer system, and reduce our reliance on city water consumption.

Additionally, we converted to renewable diesel fuel (also known as “green diesel,” “second generation diesel,” and “R99”) for all our diesel-powered equipment, including our flatbed trucks. Derived from biomass, this fuel is chemically similar to regular diesel but generated from renewable sources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, and waste oils. It serves as a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel fuel, thereby reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

Renewable diesel also has a higher cetane number than regular diesel, which helps enhance engine efficiency and provide better fuel-burning value. Its lower carbon footprint contributes to cleaner air quality by producing lower levels of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides.

These efforts help us promote efficiency in our operations and good stewardship of our communities.
